"To those who are wondering, …a brief summary on how Su Min's Epistle to the Cyberchurch started…." Administrator of Antioch.
My Epistle to The Cyberchurch started off as biweekly love letter to my 18 year old daughter En Yu who went off to UK (University of Bournemouth in Poole) to study.
What are the feelings that churn inside, as a father writes to his dear teenage daughter? My thoughts in my first letter 25.8.95, brought me to 4 passages in the bible, Matt 22:37-40, Hebrews 11:3, 1 John 4:8, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, and these I shared with my daughter.
The next day I had some thoughts from the book of Jude to share with her.
The next day 27.9.95, there was a passage from book of Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3:1-11 that spoke to me, a time for this and a time for that, and I shared that passage with En Yu. By now the swing of things was gelling, and I also realised that I could send the one letter to my son, as well as to my daughter. I began to relish my role as high priest of the household, bringing the word of God alive to my children, and to her boyfriend and his girlfriend. Four subscribers.
On 28.9.95, there was a sharing about Revelation.
By 29.9.95, I decided to resolve my grasshopper approach to bible sharing. Begin at the beginning. So I started with Genesis 1:1 and we began to work our way systematically through the first book of the Old Testament.
In November 1995, I attended an International Endoscopic meeting in Florida. At a congress dinner I was introduced to a young Thai doctor. He had an email address. Most Thai are buddhist, but Praise the Lord, my new friend was a one year old Christian. He became my first non-family subscriber.
In December I found 2 of my choir members had Internet access. Now there were 7 subscribers. 7 grew to 10, 10 to 20, 40, 60, 80, and more.
In October 1996, a subscriber offered good editorial advice: so headings and paragraphs appeared.
At about the same time Barry offered to place all the material (archival and current) on the Antioch Website.
So this is how it all began and this is why we are at where we are today.
To the glory of God, and His glory alone.
