Presenting ...
... a weekly letter of encouragement.

Good Morning!
GOLF...
I am convinced the British invented the game to get even with us Americans for winning the Revolutionary War.
Over the years I have grown to intensely dislike the game.
Hacking and slicing...I look like Houdini in the advanced stages of arthritis.
And everyone seems to offer free advice:
"Bend your knees." "Keep your eye on the ball." "Follow through." RIGHT.
Actually, I've HATED the game...Until two months ago when I received my first lesson.
The pro gave me three simple suggestions. And to my utter amazement, I am now hitting the ball long and straight. (most of the time...some of the time)
In fact I can't wait to get out on the course! Or to a driving range! CAN' WAIT!!
So for over 40 years I tried to teach myself... WHAT A JOKE!
The Christian life and discipleship are similar to GOLF:
You can hack it out on your own...but you will hate the struggle - Or you can allow a "pro" to come along side and make a few suggestions. Consider the power of example. Paul states to his disciples:
"Be imitators of me as I am of Christ." (I Corinthians 11:1)
"...You followed my teaching, conduct, purpose...perseverance" (II Timothy 3:10)
"The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice..." (Philippians 4:9)
So why spend years hacking and slicing at the game of life when you can learn from a pro: Find a mature follower of Christ and let him model the essentials for you. Perhaps he'll make a few suggestions. It will save you a lot of grief and you might even begin to enjoy the game of life!
Have a great week!
