Presenting ...
... a weekly letter of encouragement.
April 12, 1993
Good Morning!
How do you respond when your character is being roasted and your reputation is being barbecued?
Retaliate? Give 'em both barrels? Come on like Jack the Bear?
Or do you entrust yourself to your heavenly Father...your heavenly Defender?
David stated, "The Lord is the defense of my life, whom shall I fear...He is the saving defense of His anointed." (Psalm 27:1; 28:8)
Jesus demonstrated His trust in God as His Defender at His trial: "...Like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth." (Isaiah 53:7)
Pilate was startled at Jesus' silence before His accusers: "Do You not hear how many things they testify against You? And You did not answer...him with regard to a single charge..." (Matthew 27:13, 14)
Is it possible that when we take up our own defense, we run the danger of usurping God's role as our Defender? Consider:
"Never pay back evil for evil to anyone...never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, 'VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,' says the Lord." (Romans 12:17, 19)
So the next time you are being grilled, remember Jesus' silence, and your heavenly Father's defense of His crucified Lamb whom He resurrected to become the Lion of Judah.
As His child, you also qualify as a recipient of His defense. Why waste your time on any less a defender?
Have a great week!
