Presenting ...
... a weekly letter of encouragement.
April 5, 1993
Good Morning!
THE ILLUSION That somewhere out there exists a pain-free life of affluence
and fun in the sun...A sort of "Disney Nether-Nether Land" where
people like Arnie Palmer and Joan Rivers live...And so can I.
THE REALITY: In this life there will be suffering. No escapees. No amount of money, sex, right connections, travel, recognition, power, or achievement will insulate us from the harsh realities of life.
"...Man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward." (Job 5:7)
THE CONSEQUENCES: For the rebel: Devastation:
"But since you rejected Me when I called...I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you...when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind...the complacency of fools will destroy them..." (Proverbs 1:24 - 32)
For the disciple: The development of mature character:
"When all kinds of trials and temptations crowd into your lives my brothers, don't resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends! Realize that they come to test your faith and to produce in you the quality of endurance. But let the process go on until that endurance is fully developed, and you will find you have become men of mature character with the right sort of independence." (James 1:2 - 4 - Phillips Translation)
THE CONCLUSION: No one goes through this life without pain:
For the person without Christ the pain leads to devastation..
For the follower of Christ the pain can lead to the
development of Christ-like character.
THE CHOICE: Is ours.
Have a great week!
