Presenting ...
... a weekly letter of encouragement.
March 22, 1993
Good Morning!
Einstein once stated, "Our generation is characterized by the perfection of means and the confusion of goals."
I wonder if he has been reading our mail.
Christ told us He would build His church and commanded us to make disciples. (Matthew 16:18;28:18 - 20)
Instead :
We are trying to do His job of building the church, and
We expect Him to do our job of making disciples.
Now I know Einstein has been reading our mail!
A careful review of John 17 indicates the fact that Christ's primary purpose while on earth was that of making disciples of the twelve. That is why Jesus, near the end of His life and prior to the cross could tell the Father, "I have finished the work you gave me to do." (17:4)
Shortly before ascending into heaven He gathered his disciples together and turned the task of discipling over to them:
"...All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18 - 20)
Remember:
His responsibility is to build the church.
Our responsibility is to make disciples.
Have a great week!
