Pancake and Oscillating Motors

Oscillating Stepping Motors
Some applications require a stepping motor to produce an oscillating, back-and-forth motion. A disadvantage of conventional stepping motors used in oscillating modes is that they are often more complicated than they need to be to produce a simple oscillating motion.
HSI has simplified the design and has constructed an economical motor which has relatively few parts and only one stator phase.

What would otherwise have been a second stator phase is a magnet fixedly disposed, with respect to the rotor, to produce a detent position of the rotor. When the stator is energized, the field of the fixed magnet is at least partially overcome and the rotor steps to its first predetermined position. Alternately energizing and deenergizing the stator causes the rotor to oscillate between the two positions. An angle of oscillation twice that produced may be provided by reversing the stator field to oscillate the rotor between the first predetermined position and the second predetermined position, which is produced by the reversal of the stator field.

Series 11000 .43" diameter.

This motor is available in a range up to 60° step angle and can be built with a unipolar or bipolar coil for 1V to 12V. The oscillation frequency, up to 50 Hz, is the function of the load and inertia that the motor has to move.

Series 20000 .79" diameter
Series 26000 1.0" diameter
Series 36000 1.39" diameter

These motors are available in a range up to 90° step angle and can be built with a unipolar or bipolar coil for 1V to 40V. The oscillation frequency, up to 50 Hz, is the function of the load and inertia that the motor has to move
